About The Department

The Department of Civil Engineering at PSIT College of Engineering begin its journey in the year 2008 with the aim of producing high quality technical manpower needed by industry, R&D organizations, and academic institutions as per the mandate of PSIT Kanpur.

Welcome to the website page of Department of Civil Engineering at PSIT College of Engineering, Kanpur. It is designed to help you explore the strength of Department of Civil Engineering to make the right choice as a student, researcher, industrialist, collaborator and parent. Highly qualified and experienced faculty member is on the top priority list of the department and we attempt to build the sufficient cutting edge by engaging the industry expert for an academic pursuit. The academic activities of the department is built around creating deep understanding of fundamental principles, development of creative and analytical ability to handle the challenges of Civil Engineering as well as interdisciplinary field as per the requirement of outcome based education. In addition to teaching, the faculty members actively motivate the students to get engaged in research activity and enroll for higher studies. The department has established laboratory facilities with state-of-the-art equipment to carry out pedagogy teaching exercise, testing and consultancy activities.

We strive to ensure that our undergraduates demonstrate professional ethics and value the service to profession and society by getting engaged in community activity and lifelong learning. Students are encouraged to work in interdisciplinary team to showcase their ideas, prepare working models and communicate the project work for publication.

The graduates of the civil engineering programme will:

  • Excel in professional career by identifying and analysing the complex engineering problems by acquired knowledge.
  • Be able to design economically and socially feasible solutions using various tools.
  • Be able to communicate effectively and work in multi-disciplinary environment satisfying the changing need of industry and society.

1. Engineering Knowledge: To apply the knowledge of mathematics, science and Civil Engineering fundamentals to the solution of complex engineering problems. 

2. Problem Analysis: To identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex Civil Engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering.

3. Design/development of Solutions: To design solutions for Civil Engineering and allied fields related to complex engineering problems, design system components or processes that meet the specified needs of the public health , safety, and the culture, society, and environment appropriate consideration .

4. Investigation: Use research-based knowledge of Civil Engineering , research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

5. Modern Tool Usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex Civil Engineering activities with an understanding of limitations.

6. The Engineering & Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice in the field of Civil Engineering.

7. Environment & Sustainability: Understand the impact of professional Civil Engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

Students not only test various water quality parameters as per the university curriculum but also carry out their final year project in this lab. The quality of water suitable for drinking and agriculture purpose or wastewater suitable for discharge into natural stream is tested using different instruments. In this lab, the variation in different parameters of flowing water is measured. Efficiency of different types of turbines and pumps are also determined.

The students enhance their software knowledge in the areas of structural analysis of RCC and steel structures according to the relevant design code. They also learn about geometrical design parameters of roads, design water and wastewater systems and in mapping using various software.

In this laboratory, the quality of concrete cubes, workability of concrete and beams are determined. Expert of this subject receive consultancy projects from different organizations.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow has incorporated new Lab (RCE-751: Non-Destructive Testing Lab) in curriculum of 7th semester of academic session: 2019-20, therefore, this Lab is being established with the state-of-the-art-equipment. Non-destructive tests are carried out for the existing concrete structures to assess their strength and durability. The tests consist of strength and quality assessment, assessment of corrosion of reinforcing bars, welding performance, etc.
